Mesach Ssemakula has given a heartfelt piece of advice to songstress Grace Khan, urging her to stay away from harmful substances, particularly drugs, and focus on her career.
The advice came during a conversation at Papaz Restaurant, where Ssemakula shared his concerns about the negative impact drugs were having on Khan’s life and career.
Ssemakula, a seasoned musician, has always been an advocate for focus and dedication in the music industry.
Speaking candidly to Khan, he emphasised the importance of keeping her priorities straight, particularly at a time when she has been struggling with mental health issues.

The Dangers of Substance Abuse
He said while he does not condemn drinking alcohol in moderation, he strongly warns against using drugs, which can have devastating consequences.
He acknowledged that many young people, like Khan, have fallen victim to these substances, which only hinder their progress and rob them of their potential.
“Grace, you have seen where these substances have gotten you,” Ssemakula said. “You’ve gone through a phase that has distanced you from people who care about you. But we all know how talented you are. Please stay away from these things because they don’t bring anything good.”
He added that he has witnessed her struggles and, while disappointed at the time, he was now hopeful for her future, as she appeared healthier and more focused.
A Call for Persistence and Patience
This message follows reports of Khan’s ongoing battle with depression and substance abuse.
Ssemakula had earlier in 2023 revealed that Khan had been struggling with mental health, comparing herself to other artists whom she believed were more successful. Despite her immense talent, she had been battling feelings of inadequacy.
He shared that young artists should not lose hope during tough times, urging them to persist and trust the process. “It’s essential for young artists not to lose heart when they think they are failing,” he said. “They just need to stay persistent and believe in themselves.”
Khan, whose real name is Grace Namuwulya, had reportedly entered rehab after a violent altercation with fellow singer Kid Dee over the paternity of her child.
Despite the challenges she’s faced, Ssemakula is confident that she can overcome this phase, encouraging her to focus on her recovery and her career.
A Personal Lesson
Ssemakula also shared his personal experience with mental health, revealing that he had sought help from experts in the United States after experiencing a panic attack.
His openness about his struggles aimed to offer a supportive message to the younger generation of artists in Uganda, who may also face similar challenges in the highly competitive music industry.
