'Grace Khan is depressed because she’s underachieving' - Mesach Semakula

Samakula revealed last weekend that Khan is battling depression, and is "using substances she’s not supposed to.”

The former Golden Band legend says, Khan has over the years considered herself an underachiever compared to other young artists, and that this seems recently to have gotten to her head.

“My daughter Grace Khan, she is being disturbed by depression. She sees that she can sing. Grace Khan is actually a great singer… but then she sees other people she’s better than, who are taking off and far ahead of her and she starts questioning her life and wondering where she went wrong,” Semakula told Flavia Namulindwa in an interview last weekend

So she’s ended up using things she’s not supposed to use. That is why young artists need to not lose heart when they think they are failing. They just need to be persistent.”

Khan, real names Grace Namuwulya was reportedly checked into rehab late last month.

This was days after she was involved in a violent fight with singer Kid Dee over the paternity of her child, Illona Grannah.

Semakula explained in the interview that mental health challenges are commonplace especially in the music industry.

He himself, he said, had to seek help from experts in the US after he suffered a panic attack some time back.
