According to WhatsApp, edited messages will see the word “edited” next to them so that the people you are texting are aware of the modification without seeing the edit history.

In the next several weeks, the feature will become available everywhere. Within 15 minutes of sending their message, senders will have the option to change it.

Users must long-press the message they wish to alter and select “edit” from the drop-down menu in order to use this feature.

Editing texts is already possible in rival apps like Telegram and Signal. Additionally, Apple added the ability to delete and amend iMessage texts last year.

Twitter, Elon Musk's social media network, also made the edit feature available to paying customers in September after announcing it was testing it.

The most often requested Twitter feature “for many years” was “edit,” according to Jay Sullivan, head of consumer products at Twitter.

With the addition of edit tweet, Twitter wrote in a blog post, “We're hoping that Tweeting will feel more approachable and less stressful.”

You should be able to participate in the conversation in a way that makes sense to you, and we'll keep working on ways to make it feel effortless to do just that,” it stated.

About ten years ago, Facebook, which is also owned by Meta, made it possible to alter posts and comments.
