Vincent Lubega Nsamba voted next Makerere Guild President
Lubega emerged winner in the elections held virtually on Thursday, March 7th. He is to serve as the 90th Guild President of Makerere University.
The election results were announced by Ramadhan Kirunda, the student guild electoral commission chairperson.
Lubega polled 2,540 votes, beating 15 other contenders.
He beat his closest contender, Edmond Ariho, with only four votes.
The second runner-up, Kasekende Fulungensio, garnered 1,674 votes while Simon Wandukwa was fourth with 1,039 votes.
Lubega is known to be affiliated with the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) although the university banned party affiliations in guild elections.
As part of the new election rules, candidates were also not allowed to hold rallies with more than 15 supporters.
