The internet was left baffled on New Year’s even when Sylvia Owori took to her Twitter, contesting New Vision’s decision, to categorize her as a celebrity.
Towards the end of the year, The New Vision published a list of Uganda’s 100 most acclaimed celebrities of 2022.
On this list, Sylvia Owori was listed at number 76.
However, on New Year’s Eve, the lifestyle and fashion icon took to her Twitter to question and contest this ranking.
According to Owori, she does not understand why she would be considered a celebrity even after being out of the public space for 6years.
“Who is a celebrity? @KalungiKabuye. I am no.76 on this list, what am I being celebrated for? I have not been in the public space for 6 years, please educate me on why I am on this list,” she tweeted.
In the tweet, she tags New Vision’s editor in charge of the list, Kalungi Kabuye.
Kabuye responds to her tweet noting that the article in which she was included explains everything pretty well.
Nevertheless, despite the Owori’s grievance, most of her followers feel like she is deserving of her recognition.
“Once a legend, always a legend. You may not have been in the public but you set the bar. Many young youths out there are looking at you as their role model,” tweeted a one Patrick Ssembatya.
Sylvia Owori is the Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of Zipa Modelling Agency, a company that she founded and owns.
