Local media reports that the socialite who was arrested in February has been released from Al Awiir Central prison in Dubai.

The socialite is in Dubai making preparations and clearances with authorities to return to Uganda, according to TowerPost.

Mbuga was arrested on allegations of defrauding about UGX23bn from a Swedish national believed to be his wife's ex-boyfriend.

In April, Mbuga revealed that he was "framed by some Ugandan mafias".

He said: "They tarnished my name and put it in all government entities where I would get help from. They fogged stories from Facebook and got some stories from a Swedish newspaper that published my wife's story."
