Ugandan musician Irene Namubiru has taken to Twitter to say she is getting medical attention after a boat she was partying on capsized in Lake Victoria.

She says the incident has left her traumatised after being rescued by police marine force on Saturday night.

"I would like to thank all of you who have reached out to me.  By GOD'S GRACE I am  still Alive ,safe and getting medical attention but so traumatised. My deepest thoughts to our comrades who didn't make it and condolences to the bereaved families.  What can I say? GOD," she wrote on Twitter.

Namubiru was among the party-goers who were celebrating an end of year party on the boat.

At least 26 bodies have been recovered since the incident happened last night. There is no hope of any survivors.
