Simi names favourite Ugandan artistes
The singer, born Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, says while not many Ugandans are known in the West African nation, a few do stand out.
She named Joshua Baraka as one such musician who does stand a chance of expanding his listenership to Nigeria.
“I have heard about Joshua Baraka…I just got to learn about him recently; she said.
“It would be nice if we had more African countries that seep into the Nigerian market the way our music seeps into other countries.”
Other artistes from Uganda she thinks are promising include Cindy Sanyu and Eddy Kenzo, whom has interacted with before.
“For Kenzo, I spoke with him some time back,” she said.
Asked by a reporter if she’s heard of other artists such as Fik Famaica, she rescinded; “Who?... I have not heard about that one. Not yet anyway, but maybe…who knows?”
Simi however, admitted not knowing many artists outside of Nigeria, because she is not such a good music listener.
On how she discovers new artists, she said she usually picks them up from the radio or from friends’ recommendations.
“Sometimes people will DM you and you go and listen to the music,” she said.
Simi was speaking to the press on Saturday ahead of her performance as the headliner at the “Best of Kampala” concert at Garden City Upper Terrace which took place on Sunday night.
This was her first time in Uganda.
