Schools to fully open on January 10th - Education ministry.
For a period of two years, schools have been on and off due to the coronavirus and the measures put in place to curb its spread. However, with the introduction of vaccines like Astra Zenaca, over six million Ugandans have been vaccinated and it is past the initial target of 4 million people, that was set by the government.
According to Dr. Muyingo, children from nursery and kindergarten centers will be going back to school on the same day.
The education sector has been opening in phases, where medical and health training institutions were opened in September, Universities and different tertiary institutions opened on November 1st and now the rest of the classes like secondary and primary schools will fully open on 10th January.
Dr Muyingo adds that preparations for fully opening the education sector are done and they are only waiting for implementations of the already set plans which will be later shared by the parliament and public.
He has urged parents and guardians as we enter festive season to mark it and remember that schools will be reopening so they should spend sparingly as well as offer guidance and counselling to these school going students as preparation for studies.
He also advised on vaccination because vaccination cards will be a must for both teaching and support staff of all schools. He also appealed to students above 18 to get vaccinated as this is part of the plans to fully open schools.
Higher Education State Minister, Dr. Chrysostom Muyingo made these remarks while presiding over the inaugural graduation at Basasira Technical Institute in Nakasongola where he was the chief guest.
