Nearly fifty residents at an apartment block in Ruaka’s Lane 26 were on Tuesday night forced to spend the night cold after the wall of their house collapsed after a heavy downpour.

The apartment is located next to a construction site where a contractor is suspected to have dug the foundation too deep, encroaching on the neighbor's wall and parking foundation.

After the rain, an artificial landslide led to the collapse of the apartment wall and the building’s parking, taking away several cars.

The tenants began vacating for fear that the apartment block would also cave in.

At the time of publishing this story, one of the affected vehicles, a Toyota Harrier, was still having on the precipice – only held by a rope attached to one of the building’s concrete beams.

Kiambu county government, which is mandated with management of construction works and approvals in the area, is yet to give a statement on the matter.
