The deputy police spokesperson reportedly survived an assassination on Thursday after boda-boda riding assailants trailed him at night.

SP Patrick Onyango was also riding on a motorcycle when the incident happened in the busy town of Kireka, a few kilometres from Kampala.

Onyango sustained injuries after falling off the motorcycle when his rider sped off towards a group of people.

Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said authorities are gathering details of the incident and will issue a report.

Last year, former police spokesperson Felix Kaweesi was assassinated outside his home by boda-boda riding gunmen.

Former Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira was assassinated in the same way in September alongside a female friend Resty Mbabazi.
