Policeman takes own life after attempting to kill his boss
The Wamala region police spokesperson, Racheal Kawala, said the police officer who has been identified as Alex Kitiyo (47), registered under police Number 1037, while at Makokota trading center aimed a gun into his superior John Kakooza’s room and shot several bullets, without saying a word, before killing himself.
She said Police is treating this as cases of attempted murder and suicide by shooting.
“Preliminary facts indicate that today at about 500am at Makokota trading centre Police constable Kitiyo woke up and shot several bullets into the room of his in-charge police post Inspector of police John Kakooza while not talking anything, then he later returned to his room sat on his bed and shot himself dead,” Kawala said.
Police revealed that they have responded to 3 incidents of shooting in one week, two of which arose out of anger and rage by another police officer in Mbarara district and a saracen security guard in Tororo Municipality.
There have also been other tragic incidents such as one in which Uttam Bhandari, an Indian national and the director of TFS Financial Services at Rajja Chambers in Kampala, was shot and killed by Police Officer No.67029 PC Wabwire Ivan at Parliamentary Chambers.
The murder of former state minister for labour, employment and industrial relations, Rtd. Col. Charles Okello Engola and blogger Isma Olaxes aka Ibrahim Tusubira.
This spate of gun violence has prompted the Internal Security Organisation to organize a refresher training on gun handling by security operatives including police officers and private security guards.
