According to a statement released by the Church on Friday, July 21, 2023, health workers examined the food and ruled out any kind of poisoning but rather attributed it to food-borne illness.
"Yesterday, Thursday, July 20, 2023, the media was awash with stories of suspected poisoning at Nakanyonyi Senior Secondary School, a Church of Uganda-founded School in Naggalama, Mukono Diocese. Health workers have managed the situation and have ruled out poisoning but rather attributed the problem to a food-borne illness," the statement read in part.
The statement also clarified that no death has been registered and that eleven students are currently receiving medical attention at a health centre near the school, six at Mukono Church of Uganda Hospital, and others at Naggalama Hospital.
The statement further read: "The School is stable, and the situation is under control. Tentatively, day scholars have been requested to remain home until there is sanity. The Church of Uganda applauds the medical teams and well-wishers that have worked tirelessly to save our beloved Children's lives. We call upon all people of good will to pray for affected students and urge all head teachers to be extra vigilant, especially on child and Staff welfare."
On Thursday, July 20, 2023, several students of Nakanyonyi Senior Secondary School in Naggalama, Mukono district, suffered food-related illnesses after eating school food.
