Patel Estates MD Perry Kasangara and the estate General Manager Vinoj Jayakumar were on Thursday evening charged with manslaughter.

The two have been detained until Friday when a ruling on their bond application will be made.

The two had earlier on Thursday presented themselves to a Naivasha court.

This was after Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for the arrest of the two, alongside government officials who had approved the construction of Patel dam.

Water Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui on Tuesday told a Senate committee that the dam was constructed illegally and was not licensed.

“We were shocked because there is a contradiction between what is on the ground and what is in the records,” Mr Chelugui told the senators.

The dam burst during floods in May, killing 47 people in Solai in Nakuru County.
