NUP leader dies in Lacor hospital

This was revealed by the NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine in a social media post this afternoon.

“With great sorrow, I have learnt of the untimely passing of our comrade Hon Toolit Simon Akecha this afternoon at St. Mary’s Lacor Hospital in Gulu district,” Bobi Wine said in a tweet.

Akecha, according to Bobi Wine, has been the party’s acting head of policy until his death today.

The Akecha was the party’s flag bearer for the Omoro County Parliamentary By-election. Tolit is a former FDC member and a former representative for Omoro in the August House.

NRM fronted Andrew Ojok Oulanyah, the son of the late Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah as its flagbearer, several others have also expressed interest in the by-election that will take place on 26th May 2022.
