They were nabbed armed with machetes as "they planned to attack sand miners in Lwera", the police statement says.

Authorities say the gang had attacked previously attacked a factory in Kabembe harming workers and making away will over UGX100m.

Metal cutters and large sums of money were found in their possession.

"It's true we were in the process of executing a mission of robbing money from rich sand miners in Lwera," one of the suspects said.

The suspects detained at Jinja Road Police Station and will be charged with aggravated robbery.

Recently, President Kaguta Museveni commissioned a CCTV facility to monitor the Kampala Metropolitan Area with an aim of curbing crimes.
