Newcastle boss speaks out on alleged Ronaldo contract clause
The reports allege that Ronaldo’s record breaking $200m two-year-and-half contract with Al Nassr has a number of clauses including a loan move to Newcastle should the Magpies qualify for the Champions League and endorsement deals wrapped in it.
Newcastle were bought by Saudi Arabian Investment Fund, PIF last year, hence liking Ronaldo for the shock return to Europe. The odds seem in Ronaldo’s favour as the Magpies currently sit in the third place, an automatic Champions League with 35 points in 18 matches and just nine points off the summit.
Speaking about the alleged contract clause, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe claims there is no truth in the rumours.
“We wish Cristiano the best in his new venture, but there’s no truth to that from our perspective,” he told Sky Sports, per Express Sport.
At his unveiling ceremony at Al Nassr, Ronaldo suggested that he might not play in Europe again as he has won it all.
“I played at the most important clubs and for me, now it is a new challenge in Asia. So far feeling very good, I'm so proud to make this big decision in my life,” the Portugal international said.
