Mustafa Kizza's 2-year-journey from Naguru to US, Portugal and back to Naguru
In yet another familiar Ugandan football heartbreak story, 22-year-old Kizza will be returning back to the drawing board after his brief stint in United States of America and Portugal did not go as expected.
While at KCCA FC in the period between 2017-2020, Kizza caught the attention of Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact. He was hailed by the club’s sporting director as a modern attacking left back with huge potential.
“Mustafa Kizza is a modern attacking left back with great crossing abilities and huge potential. He is good on free kicks and his height will also help on set pieces”, Olivier Renard, the sporting director then said in a statement.
Montreal Impact, despite the COVID-19 pandemic would complete the transfer and had Kizza technically as a player on loan to KCCA FC pending lifting of travel restrictions.
At KCCA FC he had bagged five goals, 12 assists in 19 games in 2020 and also enjoyed continental football starting in nine CAF Champions League games with his club in 2019 and 2020, recording four goals and four assists.
In November 2020, he would finally join Montreal Impact.
According to Soccerway, at Montreal Impact, Kizza played in a strong number of their MLS matches in 2021, making 18 appearances overall and accumulating 655 minutes of playing time. He started in seven of these appearances across their 34 fixtures and been predominantly used off the bench on 11 occasions.
However, in his second season, his contract would run out and the club, then under stewardship of French legend Thierry Henry did not renew his contract letting him go as a free agent after making just two appearances.
Kizza then joined Primeira League side FC Arouca and signed a three-year-contract with the Portuguese top-flight side.
Lightning struck twice.
FC Arouca terminated Kizza’s contract just five months after his unveiling. According to reliable sources, the club signed a Brazilian youngster to replace him.
“Futebol Clube de Arouca and the player Kizza reached an agreement for the friendly termination of the contract. We wish you future sporting and personal successes,” the club noted in a brief statement.
Kizza only managed a few appearances for the side coming off the bench.
Now, KCCA FC is reportedly offering their own a chance to re-do it all over again this January window.
