Muslims have benefitted less from Gov’t poverty alleviation programs, says Mubajje
Mubaje who was giving his address during the Friday, 21 April 2023 EDD AL FITR prayers at Old Kampala said Muslims have not benefitted from Government poverty alleviation programs. He said the programs have left out the Muslim community and called on Government to draft programs that are inline with the Muslim faith.
“There are poverty alleviation programs that the Government of Uganda has come up with. Sadly, the Muslim community has not benefitted from these programs. We need poverty alleviation programs that are inline with the Muslim faith. The Muslim community needs poverty alleviation programs that allow all members of the community to get interest free loans,” he said.
The Grand Mufti also called on President Museveni to assent to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill saying that the Bill will help fight the vice which is considered evil in the Muslim faith, other religions in Ugandan and African culture, thus cleansing the Ugandan society of any evil doings.
“We call upon the President of Uganda to assent to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023 because it will help fight the vice that has been growing in Uganda. It is considered evil in the Muslim faith and the African culture. As a religious leader, I would love to see this Bill passed because it will play a crucial role in cleansing the Ugandan society of any evil doing,” Mubaje, who is a founding member of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, said.
Recently, the President urged the Muslim community to join Government poverty alleviation programs.
During the Ifter dinner which was attended by people from the Muslim faith on Friday, 14 April 2023 at State House Entebbe, the President, through a message delivered by the Vice-President, Jessica Alupo, said all believers should endeavor to join Government wealth creation drives simply because life has both spiritual and material needs where one cannot satisfy the spirit and starve the body.
“I want to use this occasion to rally the Muslim community to join the NRM’s wealth creation sensitization drive that I am currently conducting across the country. Whereas we can have spectators in sports and theatre, wealth creation must involve everyone,” Museveni emphasised.
