Museveni who made the communication on his official twitter handle said he was aware of Muhakanizi’s illness and that he had hope it was being managed.
“I am shocked to hear the death of PS. Keith Muhakanizi. I was aware of his illness but it was being managed, he came to see me before this round of treatment, it is sad that he didn't make it. I spoke to his wife in Milan and she told me what happened. Condolences to her, the family and the people of Uganda. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he twitted.
Muhakanizi has been sick for a while and receiving treatment. Reports indicate that he died in Milan in Italy.
At the time of his death, Muhakanizi was the permanent secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister where he had been posted after leaving Ministry of Finance.
Muhakanizi was confirmed dead last night at around 09:50pm.
Different people have come out to pay tribute to the fallen public servant.

Ofwono Opondo: “SAD! A friend to many. Keith Muhakanizi, Permanent Secretary Prime Minister's Office, and former long-serving PS Ministry of Finance & Secretary to the Treasury has died from a Milan, Italy hospital where he has receiving treatment. May he Rest in Peace.”
Ramathan Ggoobi: “I have just learnt about the passing of my predecessor, my senior, Mr. Keith Muhakanizi. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends. The Ministry shall issue an official communication in the due course. May the soul of Mr Muhakanizi rest in eternal peace.”
