The locals suspect that the infection of maggots that grow from their skin is transmitted by flies.

According to reports by a local media outlet, the residents claim that when bitten by the flies, their skin gets itchy and swells, a protruding brought about by the maturing eggs of the maggots left on the skin by the flies.

The wounds caused by the bites turn into oozing boils compelling the victims to seek medical attention.

The maggots feed on human flesh and when left untreated, can even destroy bones and the soft tissues of the face like eyes and nose.

The mysterious infection that has not spared children, livestock and goats either has forced some residents to resort to long sleeved clothes so as to cover their scars.

The infection is transmitted by bot flies which are bigger than the normal fly.
