Photos: Morning rain in Kampala leaves trail of destruction 

A heavy downpour in Kampala and Wakiso on Wednesday morning has left many communities reeling. 

The rain, which started at around 5 am, carried on through midmorning, leaving several suburbs flooded. 

Residents found a hard time commuting to the city as some of the main roads were cut off. 

There were also reports of destroyed homes as well as bridges. 

In Kulambiro, a woman whose house perimeter wall collapsed was seen crying for help. 

“Our entire house is flooded. My kitchen is gone. The power is off, but if it returns, we could get electrocuted,” she said. 

The Uganda Police, in an advisory, said a big part of Jinja Road was not motorable and advised travelers to use the Kampala Northern bypass.

However, parts of the bypass were also flooded, according to Allan Ssempebwa, the spokesman of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) 

“Heavy rains this morning have caused flooding along sections of the Kampala Northern Bypass—particularly around Kyebando and Sentema–Namungoona,” he said.

Motorists, especially those with low-clearance vehicles, are advised to avoid these areas and use alternative routes. Drive with caution, and stay safe!!”
