Maurice Kirya: What I like about Lydia Jazmine
While appearing on Vybe Life UG, Jenkins Mukasa asked Kirya if he was single.
Kirya said he was, prompting Mukasa to ask if that’s why he was eyeing Jazmine.
Maurice Kirya has previously said he doesn’t know Jazmine’s songs but he is always stalking her Instagram where she shares beautiful pictures.
Speaking to Jenkins Mukasa, he observed that Jazmine “is a beautiful woman.”
Mukasa followed up: What do you like about Lydia?
Kirya said: That woman, all the times I've met her, she is polite, she's never been involved in beef, she's well-behaved, I don't have a problem with her.
Maurice Kirya, who recorded his first song when he was in P.7, came from a family of music, participated in church singing and music competitions that used to be held at Sheraton Hotel when he was still a young boy.
Maurice Kirya’s brothers Vampos, Lenny and Sabasaba have all worked on some commendable projects.
Sabasaba is older than Kirya, and he used to accompany him on shows as a dancer and backup singer.
He also grew up with the celebrated Myko Ouma, but learnt most of his guitar skills from one Jackson Kimera who used to play for the likes of Afrigo Band and Philly Bongoley Lutaaya.
Kirya recorded his first professional song in 1999 with Gento who liked his voice and asked his mother allow him to hit studio with him. He was in P.7 and the song they recorded was Guno Omulembe. It was not released. But they later redid it that same year with another singer.
He released his first album in 2001 and he was bounced from radio stations where he took it to be played. The album, which he recorded with Martin Galiwango, was rejected because it had copyrighted beats.
He then met Steve Jeans in 2001 at DV8, a famous hangout at the time and they worked together to record a song called Stop.
Then he met Andrew Kiwanuka at AV1 Studios and they did Beranabo that same year, 2001.
Through Henry Kiwanuka of No End Studios, he was introduced to Tanzanian singer A.Y. who had confessed he liked his music. With A.Y., they released Binadamu which opened doors for Kirya to perform at a regional level.
