Abraham Zirarusha Gakinga died peacefully at his home, according to a local radio station.
The 142-year-old is survived by 120 grandchildren and 412 great-grandchildren.
Gakinga, who was described as a great cattle keeper and farmer, married four wives who birthed 29 children during his lifetime.
"Gakinga was a historical figure whose life can be traced back to the 1800s before colonial times and Uganda’s independence," one of the local authorities said.

There are no official documents detailing when he was born -- some people believe he is over 160 years.
Mourners were told Gakinga's secret of living longer was eating very well.
