Malaika opens up about past suicide attempt and losing a baby
Media personality Malaika Nyanzi had a candid conversation with Crystal Newman.
The celebrated radio host and event MC opened up about her tribulations and life journey on Newman's YouTube show called ".
In the emotional interview, Malaika chatted about losing everything she had worked for in Kenya, trying to commit suicide and losing a baby.
"I'm very spiritual. What I went through in Kenya made me stronger... I needed God. I tried committing suicide, it was a very bad time. I got into drugs and alcohol. It was a very bad time.
"It was a lot of things. I will be honest with you. Your best friend is your business partner, your office is your sitting room but your home is upstairs. You never have a break away from work and then you can be home...it's like everything is intertwined.
"It was a very hard breaking time."
On losing a baby
For the first time, Malaika openly spoke about losing a baby -- an experience she says she never wants to talk about because it makes her cry.
"I went through something very big, that was my tipping point...I have never said it out loud and I don't know if I can say it here.
"It was something I would wish for anyone. Ah, I lost something and I have been lost myself in the middle of that. If you can read between the lines, I'm not gonna say what it really was because I will start crying and I won't stop."
Newman asks: "Can you say you lost something? You lost a baby?" Sweetheart, you're not the only one."
Malaika continues: "I know, I'm not the only one but I don't like to dwell on it. It was a dark time for me...my parents don't even know this happened to me but my mom has a clue. That is why she said, "just leave" Kenya."
