Makerere University suspends student over illegal demonstration

The student who since been identified as Adonia Kizza was involved in a demonstration with yet to be identified other students during which they beat up fellow students and disrupted teaching and learning that was going on at the College of Education and External Studies.

I have received a report that today Monday, may 8 2023 you were involved in acts of indiscipline with other students who are yet to be identified. Among the illegal activities you were involved in is participation in illegal demonstration during which you beat up fellow students and disrupted learning and teaching which was going on at the College of Education and External Studies. The aforesaid acts are in breach of the Makerere university Students regulation (9) (a) and (b) (v) and (iii),” the statement which was signed at end by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabus Nawangwe, read.

Because of your illegal involvement in the above illegal activities, and in order to ensure safety and security of member of the University community, I hereby suspend you from Makerere University with immediate effect until further notice to allow investigations to go on. You will be invited for an interaction and further discussion on this matter on a date that will be communicated to you in due course of the University Disciplinary committee,” the statement further read.

The suspended student was pursuing a Bachelor of arts degree in education meaning he was a student at the College of Education and External Studies.
