Lugoloobi arraigned before Court over Karamoja iron sheets, charged with 2 counts of theft
Lugoloobi denied any involvement with over 700 pieces of pre-painted iron sheets before Justice Margret Tibulya.
The prosecution alleges that Lugoloobi, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ntenjeru North constituency in Kayunga district, wrongly obtained 700 pre-painted iron sheets meant for the Karamoja sub-region. The Anti-Corruption Court made a decision to make a final decision on Lugoloobi’s bail hearing on the 20th of April.
Lugoloobi, who is accused of misappropriating iron sheets meant for the Karamoja sub-region, was arrested on Friday, April 14, 2023, and held at the Kira Road Police before he was given cash bail of Sh10 million.
Lugoloobi is among the government officials who received iron sheets meant for the Karamoja sub-region.
About one month ago, media reports revealed that he had used the iron sheets to roof his piggery farm in his constituency in Kayunga district. Lugoloobi, however, denied the allegations, saying that the piggery farm he had roofed was a poverty alleviation project he had started to help people in his constituency.
Before his arrest, the Karamoja Affairs Minister, Mary Goretti Kitutu, was arrested and charged by the Anti-Corruption Court on two accounts, which include causing loss of public property and conspiracy to defraud.
Kitutu is accused of these crimes alongside her brother, Michael Naboya Kitutu.
The scandal also involved other government officials, such as the state minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu; the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among; and the Third Deputy Prime Minister, Rebecca Kadaga, among others.
