India's legendary singer Abhijeet lights up Kampala with charity concert

The Ugandan-Indian community witnessed an enchanting evening of music and charity at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) multipurpose hall, where the legendary Indian playback singer, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, delivered a mesmerizing performance.

Known professionally as Abhijeet, he is popular for his 1990s songs such as Biwi No. 1 which gained international fame.

Organized by the Bengali Association Uganda (BAUL) and supported by Plascon Uganda, the concert aimed to raise funds for constructing new classroom blocks at Kitante Primary School in Kampala.

The charity event, marked by the presence of hundreds from the Indian community and Ugandan nationals, turned into a cultural celebration under the stars.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya, a name synonymous with numerous Bollywood hits from the 1990s and early 2000s, took the audience on a nostalgic trip through his extensive repertoire.

The concert kicked off with an inspiring speech by Mr. Upender Singh Rawat, the Indian High Commissioner to Uganda, who emphasized the spirit of community and giving back. The mood was further elevated by an electrifying performance from singer Debjani, paving the way for the highlight of the night.

Dressed in an elegant navy-blue ensemble, Abhijeet took the stage to resounding applause, signaling the start of an unforgettable musical journey. Known for his distinctive voice and dynamic performances, Abhijeet showcased his versatility with hits like "Main Koi Aisa Geet Gaoon" and "Chaand Taare". Each song, beloved by fans of Bollywood music, had the audience singing along, creating an atmosphere of unity and joy.

The interaction between Abhijeet and his fans was a defining feature of the evening.

His humorous exchanges in Hindi, combined with heartfelt expressions of gratitude towards his fans, made the performance feel intimate and personal.

Abhijeet's engagement with the audience, complemented by a guest appearance by singer Joy, who performed some of Abhijeet's own songs, added layers to the musical experience, demonstrating the collaborative spirit of the artists.
