UPDF BRIGADIER INFANT SON DIES IN FREAK ACCIDENT
In a teary account by Mr Matia Kaguugube, a family friend, the driver reversed the UPDF double cabin truck attached to Brig Kyazze as he went to buy poultry feed.
In the process of reversing, he accidently knocked the boy dead at around 8am.
The accident occurred at the army officer’s home at Kabale-Bugonzi Village, Nyendo -Mukungwe in Masaka City.
In a heart-rending account of the accident, the deceased’s siblings were seated in the double cabin as it reversed.
Suddenly, the siblings reportedly heard a loud scream and asked the driver to stop and check if they had knocked somebody. However, the driver did not hear the siblings’ pleas and continued reversing.
The driver then drove out of the compound only for Brig Kyazze, who was inside the house at the time of the accident, to call him back minutes later.
Brig. Kyazze's frenzied phone calls to the driver to immediately come back and rush the boy to a health facility were sadly in vain.
As the driver rushed back, the child started bleeding profusely from the nose as he suffered from a severe head injury.
The child was then quickly rushed to a clinic near Brig. Kyazze’s home, but died upon arrival.
Panic-stricken, Brig Kyazze said he made several agitated attempts to reach his higher ups in UPDF so they could help and ensure the injured child was airlifted to Kampala for better management.
These attempts proved too late to save the child’s life.
“How the young boy left his siblings and moved behind the car to get knocked is something difficult to explain, as believers we just say it was God’s plan and leave it at that,” a distraught Brig Kyazze said.
The child was buried on Sunday evening at the Brigadier’s home.
