Kadaga, who is also the Kamuli Woman Member of Parliament, made the remarks after making a stop over at the bridge on Monday as she headed to Kamuli district.
She commended the newly constructed Isimba dam bridge on River Nile for not only reducing travel-time from Kampala to districts in Busoga regions, but also for boosting trade in the area.
Kadaga observed that her efforts to stop greedy Government officials from swindling the sh24b have yielded now that there is fast movement of people from Kampala to Busoga region and growth in the areas around the bridge.
She revealed that a whistleblower informed her about the move when she had gone to the area to commission class room blocks of Mbulamuti Primary School in Kamuli district.
The school was constructed by China Water Electric Cooperation, a Chinese company that was contracted to build the 183MW Isimba dam hydropower project.
“While commissioning the classrooms, someone from the public wrote to me saying there was a plan to stop the residents from using the bridge that was constructed on top of Isimba dam, that was not in the original design, contrary to what was in the contract signed between the Government and the contractor, which had the provision of constructing a bridge on top on the dam,” she said.
She added: “I met the contractors and commended them for the work they had done, but also told them that we want a bridge constructed on top on the dam.”
