Former Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) president Mugisha Muntu has declared his ambition to vie in the 2021 presidential elections.

"I have ambitions for standing in 2021," he said during a televised interview on Monday.

"We can't just focus on 2021. We want to build the party first, brand ourselves to attract people, build capabilities."

Muntu will launch a new political party on December 25th after splitting from FDC with several other members.

The former Chief of Defence Forces is optimistic that his new political party holds the future of Uganda's political space.

He says the party, New Formation, is going to be 'vibrant' and the 'future belongs to us'.

The 60-year-old politician was keen to note that the party is yet to identify a 'steady source of income'.

"We are working on getting a party colour consistent of good branding and it will come out as we launch. There are those Ugandans that believe in me, my hope is others will also start to believe in me," he said.

While still in FDC, Muntu was labelled a mole working and spying for the government -- an allegation which might have cost him yet another term as a party president last year.
