Police Flying Squad Unit on Friday killed three armed robbers during a shootout in Jinja.

The incident happened when the robbers attempted to rob a businessman in Masese village.

The robbers were armed with AK 47 assault rifles and had hired a Premio Reg. No. UAP 449S.

Eyewitnesses told local media that shot at the car's rear tyres suddenly stopped.

Suspects were prompted to surrender but insisted while opening fire at the plain clothed officers.

The police officer responded, in the same way, killing two armed robbers on spot and another one died during transit to the hospital.

It's believed that the fourth suspect escaped with a pistol and is still on the run.

Police recovered an AK47 with 30 rounds of ammunition.
