Ministry of Health has revealed how much it will cost to get services at the new Mulago specialised women and neonatal hospital.

The health minister said on Wednesday the hospital charges were approved by the Cabinet after examining the costs of similar services in Uganda and abroad.

The facility will offer specialized services, including maternal and neonatal services -- which will be classified as standard, VIP, and VVIP.

"The difference will be in accommodation, patient welfare and other non-clinical support services," officials said.

Patients will pay a consultation fee of UGX 50,000 and admitted patients will be charged UGX 80,000 per day which includes food, utilities and linen, according to Minister Jane Aceng.

Patients seeking IVF will be charged UGX 13million, a fee the minister says below what is currently charged in private hospitals in Kampala.

Aceng revealed that a waiver system is being developed for patients who are unable to pay for the services.

Minister Aceng announced that the new specialised facility is offering services until October 9th as an independence gift to Ugandans.

Patients seeking treatment at this facility All patients will be required to present their national ID as foreigners will be charged 25% more.

More than UGX 44bn is required to operationalize this specialised healthy facility which was constructed to decongest Mulago National Referral Hospital.
