The government of Uganda has issued a statement clarifying that Friday, a national day to mourn people who died in boat tragedy on Lake Victoria, is not a public holiday.

On Tuesday, the parliament made the announcement to remember 33 people who died when a boat capsized in Lake Victoria on Saturday.
Permanent Secretary of Ministry of ICT said national mourning day is not a public holiday.
Flags will fly at half-mast in tribute to the Ugandans who perished in the tragedy.

Places of worship have been encouraged to organise prayers to remember the souls of the departed.
