The appeal follows the launch of the “Protect Uganda’s Future” digital awareness campaign on March 5, 2026.

The campaign, part of the Ending Child Labour, Slavery & Trafficking Programme, seeks to mobilise citizens to identify and prevent exploitation while supporting victims.

Officials say child labour and trafficking remain major threats to the safety and development of children and vulnerable people.

According to the ministry, many cases begin quietly through poverty, misinformation and unsafe migration decisions, leaving victims vulnerable to traffickers.

Silence enables exploitation. Reporting helps protect victims, stop perpetrators and safeguard our communities,” the ministry said.

The government is urging families and young people to be cautious of suspicious job offers and recruitment agents promising unrealistic opportunities.

Authorities advise people to verify employment offers, insist on written contracts and avoid recruiters demanding upfront payments.

Communities are also encouraged to watch for signs that someone is being controlled or moved for exploitation.

Officials stress that children can be trafficked even without physical force, especially when deception or manipulation is involved.

The ministry says community vigilance is key to protecting vulnerable people.

Ugandans have been urged to report suspected cases through the Child Helpline 116, which connects victims to protection and support services.

The government says safeguarding children today will help secure Uganda’s future.
