Freedom City management should be held responsible- Abtex
Abtex was remanded to Luzira prisons following the death of ten revelers at the Freedom City Mall on New Year’s Day.
The promoter discloses that despite the tragedy occurring, he is shocked that he has been held responsible.
The promoter made these revelations while in conversation with Urban television.
According to the promoter, the charges should have been directed towards the owners of the premises.
He reasons that his primary responsibility is to entertain revelers and provide them with the right artistes for the occasion, a task he says, he fulfilled accordingly.
In his defense, he adds that he was not the person in charge of the fireworks display, that caused the stampede.
“I was not in charge of the fireworks, where they were displayed and the routes people had to use to access the fireworks venue,” he says.
“This was not my responsibility. It was the responsibility of the owner of the event premises,” he reveals.
He reasons that he is not he one in custody of the gate’s keys.
He further narrates that the planned arrangement by Freedom City management was that if the venue is closed, fans would have to access the fireworks display through the parking lot.
It is on that note that he concluded that freedom city’s management is the one responsible for the stampede.
According to Abtex’s lawyer, Erias Lukwago, it is absurd that they decided to arraign his client before the courts of law without prior notice.
Lukwago adds that it was by luck that Abtex was given a last-minute phone call to inform his lawyer who had to run fast to meet him in court.
Lukwago further added that his plea to have him grated bail fell on deaf ears as the Judge was hellbent on having him appear in court on 10th, this month.
Musinguzi currently faces nine counts of “Rush and Negligent” act that led to the death of people contrary to section 227 of the Penal code act.
