The social commentator while appearing on Radio 4, which is owned by Balaam Barugahara, said that Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi, is the only singer in Uganda who qualifies as a celebrity.

"Maybe the only person who qualifies as a celebrity is Kyagulanyi because of his recent trips to California. He has climbed to the level of celebrity status," said Frank Gashumba who has made a name partly because of his controversial views on society.

Asked how he looks at other artistes people term as celebrities, Gashumba was frank: "These are masqueraders. These are impersonators... Kyagulanyi is on a different level... And let me tell you something, musicians, leave Kyagulanyi alone, he is no longer in your league... He is on another level. Enjoying life with the likes of Beyonce."

According to him, a celebrity is judged on many aspects, including their sense of fashion, the people they hang out with, and the cost of their lifestyle.

"Show me a celebrity with a brand-new car!" he said.

His host noted that Bebe Cool. Gashumba responded: "Where is it?" According to him, artistes here drive second-hand cars. In September of 2023, Cool, real name Moses Ssali, reportedly acquired an armoured car. The Kasepiki hitmaker also bought a posh car for his wife, Zuena Kirema.

Gashumba, who is a leader in the Patriotic League of Uganda -- which is headed by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, was, however, quick to note that "Kyagulanyi is no longer about the struggle."
