FDC elders call for crisis meeting; national chairman barred from accessing party offices
The call to have a crisis meeting was made known to party members by FDC national chairman, Wasswa Birigwa.
Biriggwa said the meeting will be held next week, although he did not disclose which day it will be held.
Earlier, Biriggwa sent out a notification informing the media that he would hold a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Najjanakimbi on Thursday, July 20, 2023. He was, however, barred from accessing the premises by the party leadership, who said that the party had held a press conference prior and that there was no need for another.
He later addressed the media outside the office premises.
On Monday, July 17, 2023, an FDC group led by party spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and deputy president Erias Lukwago accused the party’s president, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, and the secretary general, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, of receiving funds from President Museveni to fund the 2021 elections.
In a rebuttal during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Najjanakumbi on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Mafabi accused Ssemujju of being a beneficiary of the state too.
"Ssemujju is the biggest beneficiary of government money. As chief whip, he was given 200 metres. Erias Lukwago is a Saleh project. Ask yourself why he didn't go to court when the cheating leaked. He's known for suing over the smallest things. Why didn't he sue Saleh?" Mafabi
He added: "Ssemujju preaches water and drinks wine. He accuses Museveni of nepotism. But as Chief Whip at Parliament, he employed his own relatives."
