A statement issued by the Police indicates that at least four people lost their lives and three others sustained serious injuries.
Police preliminary investigations indicated that a black Fuso Fighter motor vehicle, registration UAY 415C, loaded with matooke and heading towards Kampala from Mubende, experienced a brake failure. The vehicle lost control and overturned, resulting in the instantaneous deaths of four occupants and injuring three.
By press time, the identities of the deceased had not yet been confirmed.
The injured were identified as Nambusi Grace, 40 years old, residing in Kikajo, Namasuba, Wakiso District, Bright Patrick, 34 years old, a business person residing in Kibiri-Busabaala, Wakiso District, Nadunga Lydia, 42 years old, is a businesswoman residing in Kalerwe.
Those injured were taken to Mityana Hospital for necessary medical care. The Police thoroughly documented and examined the scene of the incident.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to Kassanda Health Centre IV mortuary, awaiting postmortem examinations. The motor vehicle involved was towed to Myanzi Police Station pending an Inspection of Vehicles (IOV) assessment.
The Police emphasised the need for responsible driving, saying that road drivers need to consider this to be of vital importance.
"This tragic accident underscores the vital importance of responsible driving. Drivers are reminded not only to operate their vehicles prudently but also to ensure the maintenance and functionality of critical systems such as brakes before embarking on their journeys. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. Police urge all drivers to prioritise not only their safety but also that of their passengers and fellow road users," the statement read.
