Fans divided after Sheilah Gashumba advises youth to quit drugs this year
According to Sheilah, the best advice she can give youths is for them to stay away from any form of mind-altering substances.
She highlights that the youth have a bright future ahead of them and they should not be their own enemies of progress.
In the brief address, she cautions the youth not to rob themselves of their future in the name of fun and games.
“To the youth: my best advice to you this 2023 is to PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS, every type of drug; powder, pills, leaves, liquid, etc!! You have a bright future ahead of you, don’t be your own enemy of progress. It’s all fun and games but they will slowly rob you of your future,” she tweeted.
The sobering piece of advice has since been disseminated to thousands of users with twitter recording over 100,000 impressions on the tweet.
However, the recipients of the message seem to be divided.
The message was overwhelmingly embraced by a certain section of her readership, among these, seasoned television host and emcee, Kats.
According to Kats, the message should have been amplified louder.
“Word louder,” he tweeted.
Another user, Basalirwa, shared Kats sentiment noting that the message could not have been any clearer.
“Thank you for this wonderful message. It’s a whole package, there is no need for addition or subtraction,” he wrote.
However, a different section of fans feel like her message is compromised since she influences for alcohol brands that can be characterized as intoxicants.
This is a sentiment that is shared by a one Henrich.
“You’re the very person who influences for liquor stores and bars. And those liquor brands sponsor your events. Why promote things you know are harmful to your fans,” he notes.
According to another fan, drugs are a remedy for depression.
“It’s sometimes the remedy for depression. Depression hurts Sheilah,” he writes.
Another user identified as Muhammad urged influencers to lead by example, noting that when he sees influential people like Sheilah posing with alcohol or drugs, it means it gives a go ahead to youth to indulge as well.
However, despite slight backlash from a certain section of followers, the overwhelming majority were in agreement with Sheilah, thanking her for steering the youths to the right course.
