In the letter which was leaked online, Waddimba said DP was “boiling from within” and in a state of crisis ever since Mao started to work with the ruling government where he is serving as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Waddimba said it was unfortunate that Mao had completely abandoned the party, leaving it in a state of confusion.

At the time of his resignation, he says, he and other staff members were working without running contracts, and not getting their retirement benefits remitted to NSSF.

It is reported that Waddimba has since fled to the United States of America.

More resignations?

DP Lawyer Luyimbazi Nalukoola said Waddimba’s resignation was only the beginning.

We have been saying this for a long time, that the party was sold off and in captivity. I assure you that many more people who have been blindly following Mao are starting to see their mistakes and we shall have many more resignations,” he said.

What (Mao) did was akin to selling your land title to buy window glasses for a house that just collapsed to the ground. How does a ministerial position lure you to sell an entire political party to Museveni.”

However, DP spokesperson Ismael Kirya said the party was unfazed by Waddimba’s departure since he was not part of the leadership structures.

It is his prerogative to leave, but you need to know that the job he was given is to serve the party President General, not the party itself,” he said.

If things were not going right he should have consulted with his boss.
