The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) withdrew the case after the complainant failed to appear in court without any notice for the second time.

The trial was expected to kick off on Tuesday but the state prosecution failed to trace the victim.

Bakuneta was arrested in 2016 for allegedly raping Vanesha Ntegesa -- a female student who was staying in his garage.

Ntegesa wrote to the DPP in 2016 saying the act didn't amount to rape and requested the charges be dropped.
