Bobi Wine tasks Oyam residents to guard NUP votes in Thursday poll
He also challenged the voters to hang around and guard against theft of their votes.
The NUP leader yesterday, July 3, held a campaign rally in the constituency which is gearing to replace its MP and former State Minister for labor Charles Okello Engola, who was shot dead on May 2, 2023 at his home in Kampala.
“I am here to ask each one of you to become the campaign manager of Okello Daniel. We ask you to come in large numbers and make your voice heard and also to stay around and guard your vote,” Bobi Wine appealed.
Regarding voter apathy, the NUP president encouraged the locals not to be discouraged by previous elections where they might have felt cheated.
“We know that you want to see change but you have developed mistrust in the elections. In 2021 you tuned up and voted but Museveni rigged the election and you might be wondering why we are back here to talk to you.”
“But we are here because we refuse to give up and we are here because we know that there are many of you who think like us. I am here to tell you that things and change can change and things will change.”
The NUP candidate will face off in the by-election with three other candidates, Engola Okello Samuel of the NRM, Apio Otuko Eunice of UPC and Okello Freddy Newton of FDC.
The election is slated for Thursday, July 6.
