My dad shared breakfast table with his bodyguard - Minister Engola’s son
George Olom Engola, one of the Minister’s Children revealed this morning that he never saw any friction between his father and his guards.
Even the last breakfast he had with his father, Olom recounted, was shared with all the family members including the bodyguard, Pte Wilson Sabiiti.
“The bodyguard was on the same dining table with us,” he said.
“Now, to the extent that our dad was a person who shared a table with his bodyguard, where you all sat together and had tea, that is something that we are all proud of.”
Olom also says Pte Sabiiti was treated as part of the family, and that the minister’s children “considered him a brother.”
Minister Engola was gunned down by his UPDF guard Pte Sabiiti on Tuesday morning as he prepared to travel to Entebbe for the weekly cabinet meeting.
The guard, who later turned the gun on himself in a salon in the neighborhood, was reportedly frustrated about non-payment of his salary.
The UPDF, through its deputy spokesperson Deo Akiiki however, has questioned this narrative, explaining that Sabiiti and many of his colleagues were owed only one month’s salary.
Meanwhile, Olom announced that the burial as per the tentative program is scheduled for next week on Saturday May 13th.
This, he said, is meant to allow other family members who are outside the country to travel back.
