The statement added: "Until a new Bishop is consecrated and installed by the House of Bishops, the appointed will also prepare the Diocese in the process of reconciliation and healing, ordain Deacons or priests, install Canons as delegated, and perform other ministerial duties as assigned from time to time."

The house of bishops recently annulled the election of Rev. Canon Semakula Kasana as the fourth bishop of the Kasana-Luweero Diocese following charges that he had children outside of his legal marriage.

The decision was made by the House of Bishops while they were gathered at the Kabalega Resort in the Hoima area, according to a statement dated June 30, 2023, and signed by the Provincial Secretary of the Church of Uganda, Rev. Canon William Ongeng.

The Rev. Eridard Nsubuga, the outgoing bishop of the diocese, stepped down on July 9 after turning the obligatory retirement age of 65. Kasana was chosen as the new bishop on April 3 of this year.

There have, however, been calls from some people in the Diocese who say that the Church should forgive him and let me continue as Bishop.
