According to Pauline Muriuki, the training coordinator, the school targeted 30 media professionals, but they were able to get 28 people, a number she said is still good.

Muriuki said the purpose of the training was to upskill knowledge among media professionals on how to use their mobile devices when telling multi-media stories.

The training has been successful. We targeted about 30 professionals but managed to get 28 people which is still a good number,” she said.

She added: “The purpose of the training is to upskill journalists with knowledge to help them improve their mobile journalism skills. We know for sure that no one can question a journalist when they walk into a place with a phone. As a result, they are able to tell stories from anywhere and everywhere.”

She also revealed that the school has been able to conduct journalism trainings in Mbarara.

We have done conducted other trainings in Mbarara district,” she said, adding that they are planning on doing other trainings in Gulu district.

Emmanuel Yegon, the training facilitator, said the professionals received enough knowledge about mobile journalism in the last three days and considers it successful.

I think the training has been successful. The attendees have responded very well. I saw engaging actively and we are waiting to see how they will apply what they have learnt,” he said.

He added: “The training has been mainly about mobile journalism. We have trained attendees skills such as content storyboarding, using software and hardware mobile journalism tools to execute journalism stories using mobile devices et cetera.”
