8 people suspected to be having Cholera have been admitted at Naguru Hospital in Kampala.

The Ministry of Health on Monday said all the patients were residents of Kabowa Parish, Rubaga Division in Kampala.

The ministry's spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyona told local media that two of the samples tested positive for the infectious bacterial disease.

All the patients are being monitored closely from an isolated centre.

Two people had died from the disease and 48 others received treatment in Amudat District around the same time.

Cholera, which causes severe watery diarrhoea and dehydration, kills about 143,000 people and about 1.3m to 4m cases are reported every year.
