Before commenting on a new mother’s new born or parenting style, you may want to think hard about what you want to say.
New mothers have enough to deal with. Their lives have just changed and they have a little one to take care of – and it’s not easy.
Picking at why they choose to bottle feed their child earlier than usual or bragging about your child to them isn’t going to help matters.
A study conducted by popular mother’s website Channel Mum sought to highlight the fact that “Words are a powerful weapon” by surveying more than 2000 participants who were asked to reveal the phrases that should never be said to a new mother.
“Whether these phrases are said accidentally, clumsily or on purpose, they help neither the person saying them or the person receiving them,” a spokeswoman for Channel Mum said about the study.
Here is the list of things to never say to a new mother.
1.He’s a bit of a handful, isn’t he?
2.I would never let my child eat sugar
3..My little one slept 12 hours last night
4.Breast is definitely best
5.You spoil your child
6.Don't you feel bad going back to work?
7.Giving a child an iPad is just lazy parenting
8.Oh, are they not walking yet?
9.I wouldn't let my child watch that much TV
10.You look tired, are the kids playing up?
11.Anything that starts with 'when my child was their age...'
12.I think he's just playing you up because you're his mum
13.Oh, are they not talking yet?
14.Oh, is she not sitting up yet?
