10 dead as truck rams into a crowd in Njeru
At least 10 people have died after a sugarcane truck rammed into a crowd in Njeru along Kayunga Road.
Police have issued a statement on their website disclosing that the dead include three juveniles.
"A tata truck reg no. UAK 277N loaded with sugarcane which was from Kayunga towards Njeru rammed into a group of people who were on the road dancing Kadodi also from Kayunga towards Njeru," part of the statement reads.
Nine victims are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at Jinja Hospital and other nearby health facilities.
The driver of the truck is on the run as police authorities launch manhunt.
In the statement, regional spokesperson Ssezibwa says authorities are yet to establish the cause of the accident as investigations continue.
On Tuesday, 21 people died when a bus crashed in Kapchorwa.
