Ten children aged between two and ten have been found dead in Southern Tanzania with teeth and genitals cut off.

Officials say the victims were kidnapped from their homes in Njombe region early this month.

Their body parts, including tongues, teeth, ears and genitals were removed.

Authorities believe the body parts were harvested to be used in witchcraft rituals -- a popular trend in the East African nation.

Tanzania's deputy health minister Faustine Ndugulile told CNN that the murders are linked to witchcraft where ritualists ask people to harvest human arts for money.

One person, believed to be hailing from the same family of three murdered kids, has been arrested in connection with the murders.

The United Nations said on Wednesday that they 'stand ready to support the government in their efforts to address the issue'.

The body offered its deepest condolences to the families and communities of murdered children.
